The hotel had a good ambiance with comfortable seating and is located in East Street, Colchester, the oldest recorded town in Britain. The staff were friendly and helpful, though there were some issues with parking space and finding staff during the day. We liked having tea making equipment in our room, but the extra charge for wifi access was unforgivable.

Rooms

The rooms I stayed in were a little dated but comfortable. The helpful receptionist assisted in locating another room much nearer, which was appreciated.
Service
7.0
The receptionist was friendly and helpful, but there was a little rudeness displayed during the day.
Location

The location in sunny Colchester was great, and I could walk everywhere easily. The historic nature of the building added to the charm, except for some issues in the bathroom area.
Dining
5.0
The toast was fine, but the sausages made of potato and vegetable mash were inedible. The breakfast experience was a bit disorganized, with some inconsistencies in billing.
Facilities
7.0
The facilities were decent overall with clean common areas and amenities, but there was an unexpected charge for wifi access.

The hotel offers great value for money with superb clean facilities but some rooms may face noise issues near the traffic roundabout. The service was very obliging and helpful with a few areas for improvement. The location, despite being in a run-down area, provides excellent service and is convenient for exploring. The dining experience is enjoyable, with a variety of options available. Overall, a comfortable stay with some noise concerns and excellent service.

5.0/10

I had a mixed experience at this hotel. The hotel is known as 'The Top Wedding Venue in Eastern England', but my stay was quite basic and lacked modern amenities. The location, although full of character, was not as pleasant due to its outskirts and busy surroundings. The service, however, stood out with the staff going out of their way to help despite some noisy disturbances. The dining experience had its ups and downs, with tasty hot plates but a bit of confusion among the staff.

Rooms
5.0
My room was unfortunately next to the road, causing sleepless nights. It definitely needs improvement to meet modern standards.
Service
7.0
The staff were really lovely and helpful, despite some disturbances with shouting and swearing about their weekend.
Location
5.0
The location had a mix of oldy-worldy and contemporary styles, but being far from town and by a busy level crossing wasn't ideal.
Dining
6.0
The dining experience had its highlights with great poached eggs but was marred by some confusion among the staff.
Facilities
5.0
The facilities were very basic and could use some modernizing to match the social media hype about this place.
